Week 5 (5/25)

In the narrative, dreams are used as a medium between God and man as a form of communication. In the beginning of man, God would speak directly to Adam, the first man, to give him the information he needed. Now, in the New Generation, God no longer speaks directly to man. Instead, he uses dreams to give messages or warning to man.

In example, in the first Chapter of Matthew, Joseph takes Mary to be his wife. But, because she was pregnant before their marriage, he wanted to keep her hidden. ‘Then Joseph, her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.’(Matt. 1:19) God however, did not want this. He knew that the baby that Mary carried was none other than Jesus, man’s savior. Instead of speaking directly to Joseph (or even Mary), he sent an angel in his sleep to deliver his message.  ‘But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto his in a dream saying, Joseph, thou son of David fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.’ (Matt. 1:20)

Week two

In “Hymn of Man”, the narrator tells us that the world was created from a thousand headed and legged man. That when he eats, he grows. Three quarters of the man rose up, spreading in all directions to create life. This text is drastically different for “Creation Hymn”. Firstly, in the “Creation Hymn” the narrator tells us that at first, there was only water, then came desire. The overall tone is questioning and unsure, while in “Hymn of Man” it is the opposite. All the words are finite and concrete, giving confident straight forward answers of our origins.

In Genesis 1, the world was created by God. The world was created by him. Before him, the world had no shape, it was simply darkness, and he began to create through his will. His vision/goal was to created opposing sides. Good/bad, light/dark, land/sea. He is the first being, and all powerful being.

In Genesis 2, it is explaining how the details of earth was made. The days of the week, the dust on the ground, the garden of Eden, and most importantly, how he created man. He made a world and then made someone to inhabit it.

Week One

According to the narrator, the universe was created through thoughts and desire. In the beginning, there was only water and darkness, then, the first aspects of life, desire and passion, gave way to existence. The overall tone is unsure, yet not with burning curiosity. The narrator understands that the reality of existence is that one may never be able to really know the origins of themselves. The narrator knows that there will always be unknowns, but they also know that we are connected to that higher power, who, hopefully, has the answers.
