Week 5 (5/25)

In the narrative, dreams are used as a medium between God and man as a form of communication. In the beginning of man, God would speak directly to Adam, the first man, to give him the information he needed. Now, in the New Generation, God no longer speaks directly to man. Instead, he uses dreams to give messages or warning to man.

In example, in the first Chapter of Matthew, Joseph takes Mary to be his wife. But, because she was pregnant before their marriage, he wanted to keep her hidden. ‘Then Joseph, her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.’(Matt. 1:19) God however, did not want this. He knew that the baby that Mary carried was none other than Jesus, man’s savior. Instead of speaking directly to Joseph (or even Mary), he sent an angel in his sleep to deliver his message.  ‘But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto his in a dream saying, Joseph, thou son of David fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.’ (Matt. 1:20)
